Which book out of the following should I read next?

I am just finishing up "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and have the choice of:

1.) My Antonia- Willa Cather

2.) A Passage to India, A Room With a View, Howard's End- E.M. Forster

3.) Moby Dick

4.) Tender is the Night- F.Scott

5.) The Gift, Glory, King, Queen, Knave, Look at the Harlequins!-Nabokov

6.) 100 Years of Solitude

7.) Catch-22

All of them interest me more or less, and I'll get to them eventually; I'm just looking for someone who has read any of them to make a case for the next one.

Which book out of the following should I read next?
Well, read them all, but:

1) _Catch-22_

It's amazing how few people read this book nowadays. Not only is it incredibly funny, but it covers issues that we're seeing a lot of in the US nowadays. A very fast read.

2) _100 Years of Solitude_

This is NOT a quick read, nor an easy one, but it can have a monumental impact on how you see the world. This is one of the books I always carried around with me in high school.

3) Nabokov

If you're new to Nabokov, those books are not where to start. _Ada_ is my favorite of his, although _Lolita_ and _Bend Sinister_ are more accessible. _Speak, Memory_ is also magnificent. If you're NOT new to Nabokov, you know as well as I!

4) _Moby Dick_

Read it and you'll understand references by just about every modern author. It's a terribly fun story, too.
Reply:100 Years of Solitude. It's absolutely great!
Reply:Catch-22. You'll love it
Reply:Tender Is the Night. F. Scott Fitzgerald is genius!
Reply:i'd start with my antonia. it's a quick read and a very good story. it's the first book i read in college and the book that made me love reading.

tender is the night is not my favorite fitgerald book. it's a little slow and very depressing. it's basically about his wife zelda.

moby dick is the most boring book i ever read in my life. i made it half way through before i gave up.

catch-22 is an excellent book. very poignant and one of the few books that was critical of wwII.

you've compiled a great list. happy reading!
Reply:100 Years of Solitude is an amazing book. So is Catch-22.
Reply:Moby Dick is wildly boring - do yourself a favor and watch the movie.

My vote is with 100 Years of Solitude - amazing, amazing. It will make your heart grow two sizes.
Reply:I've only read _Catch-22_, but it was excellent. Very twisty!
Reply:When We Were Soldiers, good book
Reply:Catch-22
Reply:Moby Dick or Catch-22
Reply:Read anything Nabokov, especially Pale Fire (though I know it's not on your list). It's brilliant, and it will give you something to chew on for a while.
Reply:" howl" by ginsberg
Reply:Catch 22
Reply:My Antonia and Howard's end are good choices if you like reading about lasting love--in My Antonia the boy loves this girl and always seem to come around her when hes needed but although she cares deeply its not enough for love. Its enjoyable for it gives the strengths and the weakness of the human spirit.

Howard's End- about a very socially correct butler who is all it means to be a gentleman and Always does the socially correct thing. Then a new housekeeper is hired and he slowly falls in love but because he has so long been the proper gentleman hesitates too long when opportunities are give for the Housekeeper falls in love with him also. Both novels take place in a ages where being in love isn't enough for there are all kinds of social rules and constraint is the rule of the day. The writing in both is excellent for it takes us into the stories and we experience the lives of the characters. Happy reading
Reply:Catch-22 or Tender Is The Night-both are great!!
Reply:I loved "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville. I liked it so much I named both of my fish after it: Herman and Moby! Go for that one. And the movie with the kid from "ET" and the guy from "Star Trek" isn't too bad either.
Reply:my antonia, we had this book on our literature class last year it is one of the best novel ever, the narator of the novel is a boy who has a childhood friend, i think they didn't end up together but the boy's love is still the same!!!
Reply:I absolutely loved A Room With A View and Howard's End by E.M. Forster. One of the best books I've ever been assigned to read and actually loved.

I have never cared for Willa Cather. I've read O Pioneers and hated it--absolutely hated it--and I am relatively sure I read My Antonia for another class...and while I didn't hate it, I didn't like it either. And I've read a short story by her too, can't recall the name. But that's just me.
Reply:Moby Dick- because it's a classic and it's about one angry whale!!!!!! How cool is that?
Reply:Well i wouldnt pick any but i luv the book tuck everlasting by natalie babbit..........................u could buy it cheap on ebay........
