What would be good roles for me?

I am a thirteen year old girl who is 5'7", blonde, with blue eyes. I have a full range, from high soprano to tenor. I am a very good actress.

Previous roles: *MUSICALS* Molly (Annie), Christine Daae (Phantom of the Opera), Rapunzel (Into the Woods), Evita (Evita), Narrator (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Charity (Sweet Charity), Cosette (Les Mis)

*PLAYS* Drama Queen (The St. Joseph's Acting Showcase), Malvilio (12th Night)

Please let me know!

What would be good roles for me?
Always try to expand your range. The reason why I am saying this is right now, I assume you are being cast in school/academic or community productions. You may at 13 be the one who is always playing the leads because you are tall, blonde, and talented, but as you expend your pool of acting opportunities you will find that when you get into college theater, and into pursuing tours/off broadway, etc, etc, there there are going to be 20 other girls there showing up for the audition who were the "you" of your group.

They are going to be the same "type" as you - the tall blond who is good about just about anything she does. She is going to have a great voice and she is going to have a good resume of roles. I suggest you keep with the lead work, but try on some character roles for size to expand your muscles. And that goes for singing roles where you don't always "sing pretty" This way you have a bigger chance of always being cast. It may come down to, that the director has worked with the other girl before and therefore know what she is like to work with and rather put someone with an unknown reliability ethic in a secondary role.

I would try playing Helena in a Midsummer Night's Dream. She is traditionally played by a taller girl, but she is also not portrayed as being the "beloved" girl that everyone fawns over - she is working hard to be noticed over her cute, petite friend.

The other thing I would focus on is also roles you would actually get if you were going to audition for let's pretend a broadway play - and you are up against seasoned adults. You would not be considered for Evita over someone of equal singing talent if they are slightly older and convey the life experience for the part needed in the second portion.

One of the comments I have heard with very young actresses is they skip over the roles made for their age and try to skip on to playing 40 year olds and they end up not being cast, rather than getting the young roles now and older ones later.

Good roles for you would be Kim in Bye Bye Birdie, It is a large role, and the character is 15. An older person could probably be a convincing Kim up through their early 20s.

Grease, the girls are a little older 17-18 years old but with your height you may be able to be convincing. But i would try it. Sandy would be the obvious choice here, but try playing Frenchie too.

Maria in West Side Story is a good choice for your voice and a good choice to learn the songs for auditions, etc.. However, since she is portrayed as Puerto Rican, if this was a major/big profile production you probably won't get it unless you portray the character so well and can convey emotion in your voice that they are convinced to cast you and dye your hair or give you a wig. It depends on the vision of the show that the director has though and what they think about non traditional casting. Many actresses have portrayed Maria and dyed their hair but again depends on the director.
Reply:Hmmm. You are somewhat tall for a 13 yr old girl. If I were a casting director, I would find it a little difficult to cast you as a lead in a multi-age cast unless you could carry a very good presence with an older boy/man. In that case, I would be absolutely THRILLED to have you in a lead chorus role, because you would probably fit into any costume I had in mind, male or female, and with wth your range you could blend in with anyone, adults or young adults.

In a children's theatre group, how well can you dance? It looks like you've got a good package with your range and experience. Now you need to dance.

You might do well to start taking some more dramatic roles or courses to get used to complex staging and more of an emotional range, while keeping up with singing and dancing. Find a singing, dance or acting coach who is currently performing, and start watching their performances, and meeting their peers.
Reply:Wow! With an impressive resume like that, it sounds like you could do almost anything, so the question is,what do you want to do?

I think it should be something suitable for your age and approved by your parents. Because of your height, you may be offered things far beyond your age, but I am sure there some roles that would be perfect for you. It just depends on what is available.
