Anyone know of a nice condo to rent for one night in Auckland?

There are many self-service apartments but most require multi-night stays. We want to stay near the waterfront near Queen Street.

Anyone know of a nice condo to rent for one night in Auckland?
Try the "President Plaza" Hotel. Its on Hobson street, right near the waterfront, 3 min walk from Queen Street.. and when i stay there its only ever been 1 night at a time. They're relatively new apartments,and ive always found it to be clean and quiet and handy. Also, if you ask when you book, they do have secure parking available, which is often hard to find in auckland hotels.

You must be on the east coast as here in Arizona it's 10:40 and still on. What I can figure

is she stepped outside the norm for a woman

and became Pharaoh, bumping her step-son from the position. That and grooming her daughter to step into her position. Then too playing footsie with a "commoner" may not have helped much. By today's standards that isn't enough to kill a person but back then it may have been a political coop of some kind.

I really enjoy these type of shows - even liked the Indy Jones movies.

Bedding that fits a Tempurpedic Celebrity Bed, Queen size?

Just bought a queen size Tempurpedic Celebrity Bed and Love it except that the mattress is so thick no sheets seem to fit it. The fitted sheets do not cover the entire mattress and get pulled up after a night of sleeping. Does anyone else have this mattress and this problem? Has anyone found a brand of sheets that actually fit the mattress?

You need to buy deep pocket 18" sheets and you should be just fine. We purchased our Tempurpedic two months ago. We got the newer Rhapsody. I wasn't sure for the first 2 days, but now my wife and I absolutely love it. We wake up so refreshed. It has even helped my bad shoulder while sleeping. I used to move all night long. I would definately recommend looking into it. Also a friend of mine helped me get a good deal from a small store. If you call Mattress America they can give you extras like free shipping and pillows. Also out of state you save the sales tax so it's even better to buy this way. We did this and they were very helpful. Ask for the manager Keith. Their number is 1-888-375-3379. Also I wouldn't suggest the new Original Tempurpedic bed. My cousin got this one and it's very hard. He exchanged it for the Deluxed Tempurpedic and now he loves it.

I have a similar problem with my tempurpedic, I think it is the foam, the sheets do not move as freely as they do on a regular mattress, so if you move the sheets tend to move too.

You can also buy fastners that clip on to the sheets unser the matress, they do help, but again on my bed the middle of the side has risen by morning.

Does anyone else feel like a drama queen from your current pregnancy?

I have three older children, none of their pregnancies did I feel morning (noon, night, or any strong smell) sickness or all the joint pain that I have been feeling. My husband won't let me do anything except for run a vacuum or fold laundry (that he brings to me) I feel like I am not pulling my weight around the house. I'm so happy to be pregnant, but I really feel like a jerk, or that others might see me as a drama queen. Any suggestions???

Hi....exactly one year ago yesterday I delivered twins...and boy was that a rough pregnancy. I had two singletons previously, which were physically easier, plus I was younger, so my body could manage better. I imagine if I had been carrying another singleton, it would have been much worse than the first two anyways because I was out of shape and older (37). I felt helpless because I couldn't do much of anything around the house and counted on parents, hubby and inlaws for help. I am not the type of person who depends on others to help me with things, so it was very difficult to be thankful.....which made me look like a b**** to everyone. It's not easy to watch as everyone else does what you're supposed to be doing. We also moved 3 weeks before I had the babies, where I basically just watched everyone move everything and put everything where it wasn't supposed to go. And I couldn't get the babies' things ready soon enough. One day, I decided to wash all of their little clothes...must have been instinct because they came the next day!

Anyways, although it may seem nice to have people wait on you while you are pregnant, the helplessness can cause us to feel irritable and out of control of everything....so your feelings are totally normal. You know your body, and as long as you are not contracting or have other conditions.....you should do whatever you up to doing and not let others dictate when or what you can do. In my case, I literally couldn't do anything!

Reply:Hi dear, I am 14 weeks pregnant and I feel so lazy myself! I am a part time student and work part time. So I am really busy. But When i come home I just feel like i dont want to move. I didnt have any morning sickness until about two weeks ago(its really strange to be happening this late). I feel so sick when i smell a lot of stuff and if i get hungry i will throw up. I also feel guilty that my fiance is having to do more now, I know he doesnt mind but I feel like I shouldnt be complaining or anything. We should just be glad that we have men who understand and want to help us. I dont think there is a way to not feel guilty though. Oh and you should tell the kids ASAP, that will make them understand you more ok?. Good luck and God bless!
Reply:i was a lazy butt the first trimester, and luckily as i'm moving into the 2nd, i have so much energy now! hang in there, it should pass. every pregnancy is different. this is my first and i didn't have any morning sickness, but i did get queasy and lightheaded at times and was exhausted for about 6-8 weeks. just take care of yourself and that baby! you body is telling you to take it easy . : )

Nausea is a very good sign; it is how your body protects your baby when you are pregnant. It will likely not last forever, hang on.

Does anyone have or had any experience with a Queen Arabesque Pleco (Hypancistrus sp)?

I have one myself and am wondering how long it takes them to reach full size? I read that they reach up to 4 inches and mine is only about 2 and doesn't seem to be growing. I have seen it eat during night feedings, but it never gets any bigger.

The queen arabesque is a slow grower to be sure. They are beautiful, aren't they? Just like any other fish, they need regular weekly partial water changes to reach their full potential.

Also, they are carnivores and need some meat in their diets. I used to feed mine snails from my other tanks. The hypancistrus have a couple of small hooks at the front of their mouth that they use to hook the snails right out of their shells.

Have patience, feed wafers for carnivores and do your partial water changes weekly and you should have a 4" arabesque eventually.
Reply:Arabesques grow very slowly. I doubt that you will actually notice its growth. But a very beautiful plec. Excellent choice.

If the book that Rushdie wrote had anything insulting about Christianity or Judaism then the queen wouldn't have given him the knighthood.....if the only reason she did wasn't to put down the Muslims, it would be less vulgar..the governments of the western countries have this gnawing hatred towards the Muslims and will do anything to bring them down. She probably never even read the book herself since it said some very vulgar things about her and tony Blair. basically the only message behind protecting Rushdie is that they are saying that the support and stand by the people who disrespect Islam and that is the only reason she knighted Rushdie!

What should I expect on my first non training shift at Dairy Queen?

I'm fourteen, just finished both my training shifts at Dairy Queen and tonight I'm working my first real shift at night.

So far I've made the dilli bars, ice cream cones, blizzards, ice cream sandwiches and I've already know how to make the curls.

I've also done toppings, and cleaned bathrooms, did tables.

What should I expect on my first night ?

I'm actually really nervous, because when I did training I was with someone, now I wont be, does anyone know what I should be expecting?

What should I expect on my first non training shift at Dairy Queen?
Stupid customers who don't know how to order. Be ready to deal with them:

1) Thinking they're in Baskin Robins and asking for scoops of flavored ice cream

2) Not knowing that blizzards come in sizes and flavors

3) Not knowing that anything comes in sizes and flavors/toppings

4) Asking you to remember their favorite blizzard, all they remember is that it has chocolate in it.

If you can deal with the customers, you'll be fine

I've been on the QE2 several times and you just can't beat it! You will be able to go on the QM2 for years but the QE2 retires next year so this could be your last chance, if I were you i would definitely go on the QE2 while you can - and don't forget afternoon tea in the ballroom - an experience not to be missed!

Queen Mary is considered the best ship for a cross atlantic journey.

Is the Queen Mary Hotel close enough to stay on before going on a cruise?

I'm going on a cruise in February and want to stay at the Queen Mary Hotel the night before. Is it just a quick taxi ride to San Pedro where I have to get on the ship?

Also, I'm flying into LAX, how far of a drive is that to the Queen Mary Hotel?

Is the Queen Mary Hotel close enough to stay on before going on a cruise?
To correct another poster's answer: Royal Caribbean ships are docked in San Pedro, not Long Beach (Carnival is the line that departs from here).

That said, Long Beach and San Pedro are pretty close to each other -- a taxi drive away.

Many people who are going on a cruise in LA will stay in Long Beach as a nice alternative to San Pedro, which has a couple of hotels, but is vvery industrial (LB has some industry too but there are nice areas too).

The drive to San Pedro and Long Beach probably won't be too quick because the 405 has lots of traffic all day long, especially around LAX.
Reply:it is just a quick trip to san pedro 10 min or less.. made the trip more than once myself . never by taxi so don't know the cost. there is a Best Weastern 3 or 4 block's from the terminal in San Pedro with shuttle service to the ship..
Reply:LAX is not too close to the Queen Mary. Your best bet will be to make a reservation with Super shuttle. I'll link to them in below. It will probably be around $20 a person.

Royal Carribean docks in the same area as the QM. In fact, early check in is actually in the belly of the QM. The other ships are easily within taxi distance, or I bet that your cruise line has a shuttle service that you can sign up for (for a fee).

Does anyone know how this necklace worked, when it reflected all the stars from the light. Yes I know it's mostly movie magic, but I was wondering if there is any actual jewelry like that in the world. That will reflect shapes on the wall when held to the light???

I have never seen or heard of any jewelry that would. Her necklace was a crystal...but it only shown the stars of David when you put it against the light. I think the only way that would work was if you had a hollow piece of jewelry (made out of metal like gold or silver) with the little stars cut into it. Than when yo put it against a light, the stars would appear around you. The only thing with that though, is that everybody would see the stars previously since they would be cut into the metal.

Queen Esther's stars were invisible to the naked eye...so that's some nice movie magic right there.

i thought the the 7 good, proggy rock songs didn't mesh well with the cabaret, saloon-like songs. This has produced a mixed feeling for the album as a whole.

The saloon songs weren't catchy at all (unlike stone cold crazy and killer queen).

I think that Queen should have stuck to the formula they used to make sheer heart attack and queen II.

Does anyone else have any thoughts?

The diversity is one of the things that makes it great. There was so much talent and diverse tastes in that band that you weren't going to get the same thing over and over again. This is how you get rockabilly songs like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and proggy, experimental songs like "Get Down (Make Love)."
Reply:I think bands like Queen were all the stronger for *not* following a formula. Bands like that are usually the most interesting (or KEEP things interesting)

Reply:I loved the album. I heard it soon after it's original release. Each song was like it's own little story...so unique. Understand that Queen were pushing the envelope. Nothing was off limits. The band contained 4 equal members. Not even The Beatles could claim that. They all contributed their style creating a variety of music. Some people prefer bands to have a sound where everything pretty much sounds like everything else. One band that comes to mind is Nickelback. Queen wanted to express themselves in as many different ways as they could dream possible. This way they would avoid being bored and hopefully entertain at the same time. It was all about creativity...not just writing songs. That is why they were never popular among the critics. No one ever said you had to like everything they ever did! BTW...Queen never had a formula. Some songs were written years before Queen formed as a band. Some were written in the studio. Some had a will of their own like Bo Rhap. Some were started by one member and completely changed by another (usually Freddie.) Some were written from a hospital bed like the guitar solo to Killer Queen! To me, it's all good!

I'm a huge fan of this album. I've owned it for over 2 decades. Listen to it more and the "odd" songs may grow on you. I LOVE the funny bits on that album almost more than the rock songs.

They made a DVD about the making of that album. It's a very interesting tale. I highly recommend it.
Reply:I loved the album, it is the first rock album I owned. I loved the diversity of it, and the sheer ballsiness of it. You have way " out there" songs like Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, epics like The Prophet's song, and hard rocking songs like Death On Two legs.

It takes real creativity and nerve to do a record like that.

I am going on a cruise on the Queen Mary with my Uncle and Aunt in May and I am told that the evenings are quiet formal. Its a 14 day cruise and apparently there are 4 formal nights whilst we are on board.

I am new to cruising as are my Uncle and Aunt. What should I wear on the formal nights and what do you wear on the other less formal nights.

Queen Mary cruise?
For each of the formal nights a dinner suit for men although if you study the booking paper work it says a lounge suit is acceptable. For the ladies it is a night to dress up and dazzle. On other nights smart dress is required, I like a blazer and slacks, for the ladies trousers or dress are acceptable, dress up for first non gala nights and see how others are dressed. No shorts are allowed at any time in dining rooms. No bare arms for men. If I did not have dinner suit I would feel uncomfortable, so if your Uncle hasn't got one suggest he rents one. On my last cruise suits were available to hire. This could be checked out with cruise line. If you are leaving and returning by boat then luggage size is not important but if like me on my next cruise 24 April, we are flying out to Jamaica luggage is limited. Check on itinerary for fancy dress nights. Don't have to dress but they can be fun. Have a wonderful holiday.
Reply:On the formal nights most men wear dinner suits ie tux with bow tie etc (Jackets can be black or white). The women get glammed up with posh dresses. After the main formal night it will be accepted for men to wear a lounge suit with tie. Women continue to wear posh dresses.
Reply:Havn,t been on the Q.M. But the QE11 has a non formal restaurant called the Lido and you can choose to eat there everynight if you want to. You can also use room service and dine in your stateroom on the formal nights.

But the dressing up is great fun, you can hire formal wear to take with you or on board, but try to check costs on board before you go if money is a problem, but if you are going to do it again, consider buying, although at your age, it might be worth waiting.

Might be worth trawling the local charity shops, ask your aunt about this, I found an expensive dress shirt for £2.00 as new.

i am 15 and a freshman and my room isn't very big. i wanna kleen it for school. i have a queen sized bed and a desk and a dresser and i night stand how can i fit all my stuff in it i also have a small closet???? help how do i organize it?

Reply:Go buy cheap plastic drawers from target for whatever storage you need. Have a desk, plain flat top for your computer is good ($99), as long as it's spacious to do your homework. Get the filling bins from staples, and fill them up with vanilla folders. Just make sure you have the right dressor and drawers, and a table for homeowork, filling bin, a computer, and some sort of entertainment. School equipments... That's all you need for school. Don't forget little notebooks for your agenda, list them down, and check them off, this will mak eyou time efficient and organized in your daily activities.

Reply:i lived in a cage with three other soldiers for a year...something that always helped(because we had to) was to make our beds everyday...somehow in a small room this always seems to motivate cleaning the rest of it and keeping it clean...put away the stuff that you don't use as often, and keep handy what you need on a regular basis...also, definitely put away things as soon as you are done with them...good luck...
Reply:well, clean up your mess every time you make one, take at least 5-10 minutes a day to straighten up your room that way it wont get messy and if it does, it wont take long to clean up. have you thought of going through your things and seeing if you dont use things anymore....ive got a small room too and i live in it with my boyfriend...2 peoples stuff and two people living in it can get pretty messy...all you have to do is take some time and go through everything, things you want, dont want, want to throw away should all be considered, and u can get some storage bins cheep so things dont look so unorganized
Reply:Get rid of any junk or stuff that you will never use again. Make room for the stuff you do need. Get a closet organizer shelf if it will fit or use it for a shelf in your room. The smaller the room the faster it will get messy, as u already know so make a commitment every day to pick your clothes up and put them away. Also, if you make the bed it will instantly make your room look cleaner. Get those bins that you can slide under the bed.

You may want to consider getting a smaller bed to make more room but I know that is a sacrifice.

Well, read them all, but:

1) _Catch-22_

It's amazing how few people read this book nowadays. Not only is it incredibly funny, but it covers issues that we're seeing a lot of in the US nowadays. A very fast read.

2) _100 Years of Solitude_

This is NOT a quick read, nor an easy one, but it can have a monumental impact on how you see the world. This is one of the books I always carried around with me in high school.

3) Nabokov

If you're new to Nabokov, those books are not where to start. _Ada_ is my favorite of his, although _Lolita_ and _Bend Sinister_ are more accessible. _Speak, Memory_ is also magnificent. If you're NOT new to Nabokov, you know as well as I!

4) _Moby Dick_

Read it and you'll understand references by just about every modern author. It's a terribly fun story, too.

tender is the night is not my favorite fitgerald book. it's a little slow and very depressing. it's basically about his wife zelda.

moby dick is the most boring book i ever read in my life. i made it half way through before i gave up.

catch-22 is an excellent book. very poignant and one of the few books that was critical of wwII.

Reply:My Antonia and Howard's end are good choices if you like reading about lasting love--in My Antonia the boy loves this girl and always seem to come around her when hes needed but although she cares deeply its not enough for love. Its enjoyable for it gives the strengths and the weakness of the human spirit.

Howard's End- about a very socially correct butler who is all it means to be a gentleman and Always does the socially correct thing. Then a new housekeeper is hired and he slowly falls in love but because he has so long been the proper gentleman hesitates too long when opportunities are give for the Housekeeper falls in love with him also. Both novels take place in a ages where being in love isn't enough for there are all kinds of social rules and constraint is the rule of the day. The writing in both is excellent for it takes us into the stories and we experience the lives of the characters. Happy reading

Saw the programme last night and don´t think he´s changed his views, good luck to him. He´s been ridiculed over the years but has come out the other side. Reptilians, not sure about that one! Getting rid of wasps?

Probably a very common problem, but the problem is, I am terrified of them. It started out with a few, but now, every time I go out, they seem to be everywhere (at least I think so!) How do I get rid of them - I think I know where the nest is (a very awkward place to get at). I picked up some Raid Wasp %26amp; Hornet Killer today, but I've been told to be soooo careful, that they will swarm and not to spray until night when they are in their nest with the queen. Am I safe doing this????? They are the biggest wasps I have ever seen (long, with dangly legs) and even seem to go after the dog, trying to burrow into her fur. Someone even told me to use vinegar, although I don't know how I would do that - Maybe an exterminator is my only option - What do you think? Any suggestions would be appreciated before I send my husband out there to face what could be an ugly encounter????? Thanks so much for any help before the ugly little creatures spoil my summer.

Getting rid of wasps?
Nest removal or getting rid of wasps, particularly social wasps, is a fairly simple process. Finding the nest usually entails a quick survey for heavy wasp traffic during dusk or dawn, when wasps tend to return to the nest. Once the sun is down for the evening and you’ve noticed less traffic near the nest, dress yourself with multiple layers of clothing, and find a pair of gloves, just in case. Then, go out to the nest and spray the entrance with any wasp killing agent, like Raid for example. Spray liberally, but avoid inhaling too much of the poison. Most wasp poisons kill on contact, but it’s best to be safe by slowly leaving the area, sudden movements can attract attention.

Which wasp killer you use depends on where the nest is.

For nests that are located underground, you will want to use a wasp killer that is not labeled as a projectile spray. You want very little spray for yellow jacket nests that are found underground.

For nests that are elevated, you will want to find a can of wasp %26amp; hornet killer that is labeled as a projectile spray. This will ensure a stream of wasp poison roughly 15-20 feet in length. Plenty of distance to make a quick escape if necessary.

Repeating this process twice or even three times may be necessary until you’re certain the nest has been vacated. Once you see that there is no traffic, it’s probably safe to knock down the nest if it’s an aerial nest, or fill the nest with dirt and gravel if it’s in the ground. This should be the end of your wasp problem until the next migration cycle.

7 Month Old not sleeping through the night??

My son is 7 months old, he does not sleep for more than 2-3 hours at a time. I start out with a bath at 7 or 7:30. Then I lotion him, and put his clothes on. I nurse him, and he eventually falls asleep at about 8:30 or 9. He will only fall asleep while he is nursing, he will not fall asleep on his own. I put him in his crib and then about 2 hours later he wakes up. I bring him back to my bed and nurse him and he falls asleep right away. He will again sleep for 2 hours and wake up. Since I breast feed him, I can just roll over and nurse him. I have a pretty tall queen sized bed. I have a small room, and his crib is right next to the bottom of my bed. I am a very light sleeper, so rolling on him was not a concern for me. This morning at about 4:30, I woke up and he was at the end of my bed he had crawled to the end of my bed. I grabbed him quickly. One inch to the left and he would have fallen off of my bed! I need to figure out how to get him in his own bed all night,

7 Month Old not sleeping through the night??
I had the same problem with my 9 month old son 19 years ago. My problem was I always gave him a bottle when he woke up big no no. I was told by my Dr. to stop that he didn't need it.I picked him up changed him if he needed it and he would just lay in my arms looking at me until he got sleepy again.It took about a week or two but after that he started sleeping all night.

Reply:I definitely recommend that you either adjust the length of the crib so he does not crawl out again or exchange the crib you own for a crib the extends more upward.

Also, your infant needs to have on of those rings with stuffed animals and lights hanging from from the top of his crip. It usually is set by you to mandate wheter you want the ring twirling, spinning, moving slowly, and light and sound on. This usually occupies the baby and make them laugh and eventually sleeply.

He also is "conditioned" to sleepling only a few hours because he knows he will get milk immediately from you and he is hungry. He needs to grow slowly detached from your breast and onto a bottle so he does not expect consistant, random feedings in the middle of the night.

Lastly, before you and the baby go to bed, do a "baby message" in which you rub on his back lightly with a little bit of soothing baby oil. You do this and they will be more relaxed, happy, and less like likely to cry thoughout the day as well as more likely to sleep better. Trust me, I saw this tactic on the news.

Reply:First off you need to get him out of your room. I have two children and with the first one I did pretty much what your doing now with the same results. By the second one I really learned my lesson.

As hard as this sounds ,you need to try and let him fall asleep on his own. When you are ready for him to go to bed. Do your normal routine,but this time lay him in the crib while he is awake. Warning he isn't going to like this at first so he is going to cry. The best thing you can do is go somewhere were you can't hear him so intensely and then time him for 10 minutes. If he is still crying comfort him,but don't pick him up. Continue to do this 10 minute process until he falls asleep. I know it may seem mean,but I realized afterwards how much better we both slept. I promise if you do this for about 3 days constantly you will watch and be amazed how fast he goes to sleep. After awhile hell get were he doesn't cry at all.

Reply:It is so hard. My son at 9 month still doesn't sleep through the night. We have a very similar situation. Not all babies are sleepers. As far as your bed and the babe, why not invest in a guard rail. He'll may need it later when he's in a big bed.
Reply:I had a hard problem with my son sleeping through the night too. He actually didn't start sleeping through the night until he was 1. Every child is different though. Does he use a binky? That could help, if he doesn't already use a binky though you might not want to try it, sometimes that is a hard habit to break. Anyways be careful of him in your bed, my son did fall off the bed. Thank god it was so close to the ground he didn't get hurt. Now that he is mobile it is dangerous. If it is necessary for him to be in your bed try though bed railings so he can't fall off!

Reply:My advice is to totally ignore your responses that you should give formula! I cannot belive someone would tell you that!!!! Nursing and co-sleeping is the best thing you can do for your baby! If you have to adjust and put your mattress on the floor, then so be it.

My baby is also 7 mo and was doing the same thing up until this week actually. Just give it time and he will sleep! This is such a short and precious time you have with your baby. Cherish it because he'll be growing up WAY to fast.
Reply:Well up until about a week ago I had the same problem as you do with my 8 month old. I was SOOO against the Ferber (cry it out) Method but since I was about to lose my mind I decided to try it. If you actually check it out it's not as cruel as it sounds, you don't just put him in his crib and walk away. Anyway, by the 3rd night he was only waking up once for about 5 minutes and going back until about 8:00. It was really hard to listen to him cry but it was well worth it, I'd like to kick myself for not doing it sooner.

You and your baby need a good nights sleep. He may cry at first but in the long run it's better for you AND him. My son is so much more pleasant during the day, he seems so much happier and so do I.

Reply:He's stuck on the boob. Try to bottle feed him your breastmilk. Sounds like you're nursing him alot. Try a paci. Honey I know it's hard, but sometimes you just might have to let him cry. He's a mommy hog, and I understand why, he love love loves his mommy. Try to bottle feed and try letting him sleep in his own bed. Don't do both at once, I would try the bottlle approach. No more sleeping in bed with mommy. I know it sucks as much for you as it does for him. If he stays all night in his bed now, it will help in the long run. You don't want him still sleeping with you when he's 2 or 3 or up do you? For a few nights he might just have to cry. I know it's hard but don't you go to the crib. Let him cry if he has to. after 15 or 20 minutes then get him. Good Luck
Reply:If you do not set boundries now you will end up with a child running your house. There is no need for a 7 month old to be fed during the night. Mine all lept through the night , in their own rooms, by 3 1/2 months old thanks to very good advice from my pediatrician.

Bedtime: Put the baby to sleep in HIS OWN bed. Let him cry to start with for 15 minutes hten go in and reassure him that you are there and tuck him back in. DO NOT feed or cuddle him. After tucking him back in leave him for 30 minutes. If he is still crying check on him and tuck him back in and leave for another 30 minutes. Repeat this until he goes to sleep. This will not be easy for you but it is what is best for the child. You may have to do this for 1 night or a week but it will work and he will thereafter go to sleep on his own. It took 2 nights with one of mine and a week with another but they are now 6 and 7 and have slept through the night since 3 months old.

Waking during the night: There is absolutely NO need for a 7 month old to be fed during the night. When the baby wakes instead of breastfeeding or giving him a botle of milk give him a bottle with water to start with. Then after no more than a week of only giving him water when he wakes start to only give him water once during the night. When he wakes simply give him a cuddle and put him back to bed. Yes he will scream and yes it will not be easy but just think in a matter of weeks he will go to bed on his own and sleep through the night. It is what is best for the baby and you.

Reply:We just recently went through this faze with my currently 9-month-old. I hate to say it, but it lasted a month and a half.

You have to do what you have to do to make it through.

People told us to let him cry it out - we tried that and he ended up vomiting he was so upset. So, we fed him and put him back to bed.

One day, he just started sleeping through the night again and he has every single night since them.

Have you considered having him sleep on the floor? My son's a crawler and a crib wouldn't work for him because he crawls around as he sleeps. We put a blanket down on the floor, remove anything that he could get in to, and let him sleep there. He does SO much better!

My daughter is almost 7 months. She will fuss until I nurse her before she falls asleep but this occurance is not every day. Your baby should not be eating 2-3 hours at this stage. He needs more solids. He is using you as a pacifier. Try to wean him from this habit. It will be hard. Teething will cause them to wake up at night as well. Give him a teething ring and make sure you feed him more than just breast milk before he goes to bed. A baby will natuarally wake up for about 10 minutes. After that is you leave them alone they will eventually fall asleep if all their needs are meet.

Reply:Your not going to want to hear this, but I think you are the reason he is not sleeping all night. You have created a pattern and he has learned how ti manipulate you quite well. Several mistakes that you have made:

1. He is still in your room

2. You nurse him to sleep

3. You put him in bed with you when he wakes up and nurse him again!

Now, I am not saying your a bad mommy. We all have done these types of things. I certainly have done my fair share. But, after 4 children I have learned from my mistakes. It took getting to number four for me to learn!! What does that say about me???? Here is what you need to do to fix this problem.

1. Move him out of your room if you can. If not, at least move him as far away from your bed as possible and put up a privacy screen so that when he wakes up he can't see you.

2. DO NOT NURSE HIM TO SLEEP!! Nurse him until he is drowsy, then place him in his bed. You will have to let him cry it out. Check on him every 5 mins or so. Do not pick him up, just talk to him and if you need to, rub his back a little. THEN LEAVE.

3. When he wakes in the night have your partner tend to him. If you don't your baby will be able to smell your milk and cry for this reason alone. If you are a single mommy, wait a couple of minutes, check on him from the door. And again, let him cry it out.

This pattern may take a week or so to break, but it will work if you stick to it. If you cave in sometimes, that's okay, just try again. The biggest thing you need to do is get him in his own bed and out of your room. This alone may work miracles. The cry it out thing is hard, but it works. You need to sleep and so does your baby. He needs to put himself to sleep. If not, you will have sleep problems for years to come.
Reply:That's hard. Sorry for you. He is use to falling asleep nursing you. Once he starts falling asleep wake him then put him in his crib slightly awake. If he cries let him foe a few minutes go in and tell him quietly your there. Leave. Keep doing this. Babies need to learn to fall asleep by themselves. Try a security item such as small blanket, small stuffed animal, maybe crib toy that attaches to cribs (like plays soothing music).

Your baby does not need to be fed anymore through the night. The transition for him will be slow, may take about month. Talk to the Doctor.Good luck.
Reply:Sometime you just have to let the fuss....he will never learn to fall asleep on his own if you don't give him a chance...you might give him some solid food before bed, like a single grain rice ceral...this will stay in his stomach longer and might help him sleep....but other than that, let him fuss, he will learn to fall asleep on his own.....
Reply:it sounds like he is falling asleep at the breast and isn't getting enough to eat -- you need to find a way to keep him awake, so that he eats more and then he needs to learn to fall asleep on his own in his own bed, it will be hard at first but it will be better for both of you. Reply:We just put our mattress on the floor when my son started crawling, and continued to co-sleep. Waking during the night is entirely developmentally appropriate even through the second year, although the number of times will change as they grow and develop. It's particularly common for night wakings to increase when the child is working on more developmental milestones or teething--they really need you during the night then!

Once my son learned how to get off the bed correctly (feet first), we were able to put the box spring back under the mattress, and we'll soon be adding the frame back.

But, there is hope! He just started sleeping 4 hours... so he's only waking twice a night now (for the most part).

So, My answer is patience... he will eventually sleep through the night, he's just not ready yet.

Ive never had my son try and crawl off the bed in the middle of the night, but he has rolled off. I now sleep with my arms wrapped around him.

OH, and you can teach him how to get down safely. Every morning, drop him feet first off the bed (not drop, but help him while holding his hands) and tell him "feet first" or whatever phrase works for you.

And my son is 16 months tomorrow, so it does get better... its just about patience.
Reply:you might want to consider some formula to keep him full. Because you are nursing, breast milk is not as filling. You should talk to your pediatrician about starting cerial. Don't feel bad about the baby almost falling off the bed. My son has fallen off the bed more then once. He is three years old now and at about 9 months of age he rolled off the bed. He was just fine.

maybe you can express your milk and mix some formula with it and give it to him in a bottle.

or just give him formula at night time.

i read "The Contented Baby Book" by Gina Ford. It recommends topping off the baby before You go to sleep.

so, if you nurse him at around 8:00pm, wake him at up 10:00 for a top off feed. this will help him last a few more hours. after doing this for about one week, he should be able to sleep through the night.

this book helped me a lot with both of my girls.
Reply:Maybe if you could move his crib out of your room. he may hear you at night and it's waking him up. I dont think I would let him sleep in bed with you at that age especially, it could be dangerous. My daughter just started sleeping through the night and she is also 7 months old. Good luck.

Breastmilk does get digested more quickly so the baby will eat more often but you do not need to add formula to the babies diet. Breastmilk is the best nutrition. Many mother's do what you do - sleep with the baby. You can get rails for the bed to keep the baby from crawling off. I recommend the book The No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. You don't have to just let your baby cry. And my son slept longer once he was a year old. It is not abnormal for them to wake up that often.

Your baby will begin to comfort herself and to sleep for longer stretches at her own developmental pace. If your baby wants to nurse at night, it is because she DOES need this, whether it's because she is hungry or because she wants to be close to mom. Trying to force or coax baby to reach this before her time may result in other problems later on.

If you can try to take a more relaxed approach and trust that it will come in time, you'll see your baby eventually become a good sleeper. All babies are different and you have to find what works for you and your baby/family. I just included this information because many people never hear any of this in the media.
Reply:This is a common problem. What's going on is that your baby now has a habit. He can only sleep when he's nursing. Try to put him to sleep drowsy, but still awake. He is now old enough that he doesn't need to eat during the night, so try to give him back his binky, but don't feed him during the night. It might take a week or two to work, though. Oh! And solid food does not make any change in sleep habits. I read about this in Parenting Magazine. And it has made no change in my almost 6 month old's sleeping patterns, too.

How can I get better grades?

I am a horrible procrastinator. I mean I am the queen of all that is put of until the last minute! But then again, I thrive under the pressure, I do my best work the night before that project worth half my grade is due.

I also know I'm not stupid. I know I'm not a genius either! The thing is my parents expect me to get good grades. They expect me to get a scholarship. They expect me to be some successful CEO trying to take over the world!

And I want all of that also (exepct the whole becoming a CEO and taking over the world thing) but my study habits are horrible! Not only do I procrastinate, I NEVER study for anything!

But the thing was it wasn't until this semester that I've been getting bad grades (second semester of my freshman year), I've found myself thanking god for a C!

I know I have to stop just barely making it by the skin of my teeth, I just dont know how to do it. So could someone teach me how to bring my grades up, and teach me good study habits?

If you do your homework they day it was given to you, think you will have plenty of spare time. if its a really big piece of homework, such an essay, spread it over a few days.

okay so my wedding colors are black red and silver i am tring to pair the queen of the night tulip(black looking flower)...with flowers that are red, which shouldnt be a probelm but what do i do to incorporate silver? are there any flowers that look silver? You can use the foliage of Helichrysum petiolare (licorice plant), it's gray and has nice leaves.

Reply:Craft stores have all sorts of "filler" type material you can put in with them. There is one type that has a few stems that stick out that are fairly small, but you can use scissors to curl them--like you would do with curly Christmas ribbon. That would be a nice accent. Or you could possibly go with a very small amount of baby's breath spray painted a light silver or with silver glitter on it. I would say just go to a craft store and browse around the floral department. You're likely to walk away with more ideas than you could possibly use. Congratulations and Good luck!

My two and a half year old daughter has started coming into my room at night and sleeping with me and my husband. Now she is just going straight to our bed and going to sleep. How do you stop this. I want to be able to have room in my bed at night, turns out she likes to sleep sideways and we have only a queen. Can someone help with this please. What worked for you

How do you get your 2 1/2 year old to sleep in there own bed???
I had the same problem. I just started putting my son in his room and told him that he could only sleep in his bed. I told him how special it is to have his own room and be surrounded by his toys. The first night was terrible and I didn't get to bed until about 3 am, but the next night was better, and the next night, and so on. I make sure there is a night light on. We go in his room about 15 minutes before bedtime and read a couple stories and get him settled in. Just make the vibe calm and confident, it will happen. Good Luck
Reply:I have three children, and went through this with all of them. The biggest thing is to set up a routine. i.e.- bath, teeth, jammies, bear (special toy), story, bed. Then put her in her bed. If she comes to your bed, take her back to her bed. A BIG part of this is to decide what the initial bed time plan is, stick to your plan, and don't change or you will lose. She will cry, wail, nash her teeth and drum her feet on the floor. Or, she will be really cute and funny. They are all ploys of manipulation that our children know they can get away with (and sometimes they do--but this isn't one of them!) Start on a weekend, the first night is LONG. It will get shorter quickly as soon as she learns the routine. If she runs out to you because you haven't gone to bed, just say "time for night-night", pick her up and put her back to her bed with a kiss. No lingering, yelling, swatting, then leave. My children have grown up so fast--we are looking at colleges with our first. Good luck! Keep her out of your bed!
Reply:Sleep in their bed til they fall asleep then go into your bed. And if that dosent work give them a bracelet to "keep them safe" at night. She may be haveing bad dreams without you there.

Reply:I made her bed a very exciting place to be (it is a Dora bed and she loves Dora). I always talked up her bed and made it seem awesome. And when all else fails (although sometimes I let her sleep with me) I just do the super nanny thing - keep putting them back in their own bed until they fall asleep. Persistence pays off. I had to do that for and hour and a half the other day to get her to take a nap but now she is back on a proper schedule. Good Luck!!!
Reply:Everytime she comes to your room take her back to her room %26amp; put her to bed explaining to her that everyone has their place to sleep and make no exceptions. It only took 1 1/2 wks for me to accomplish this. Consistency is a parents best friend.
Reply:We are working on this right now, too. For us so far, the secret is to make it fun for her to sleep in her own room and in her own bed, and to talk about how she's such a 'big girl' when she sleeps on her own. I use my tone of voice to slowly get her around to my side, making it sound like a lot more fun and grown up to sleep on her own than to sleep with me. I guess what's working is when I can get her to think that it's her idea to sleep by herself. It's not easy, I know. This is just one idea. Good luck, and don't give up. Something will work for you guys. It just takes persistance.
Reply:i have a two year old son and we started letting him sleep with us at 10 months and we had to resort to " SLEEP TRAINING" it took him 4 nights to get it that no more sleeping in mommy and daddy's bed/room, I like a few have said already started him on a routine, and we would both put him to bed in his bed give hugs and nite nite kisses and then shut his door, yes he screamed forever but the crying decreased and then stoped within 4 days, it was very hard but do not go to her for any reason unless she cries so that she makes herself throw-up.....but other then that let her cry it out.....tough love is the best way to go on some things......i felt so mean for letting my son scream but now it was worth it to have my bed back to myself and my husband.

Then but them in there own bed tell them you love them very much but they are to sleep in their own bed beacause they are a big boy/girl. When the come into your room in the middle of the night (and trust me they will) take them back to there own bed and leave. Do not hang around and try to persuade them or baby them back to sleep. You may have to do this more than once, but stick with it and with in a few days you will have your bed to yourselves again. You just got to be strong and make the effort.

When you get to bedtime, if your child is hesitant to talk, you can try speaking for the characters. If your child has gotten into the play, she will correct you if you give the characters motivations that are inaccurate from her perspective.

Another approach is to encourage your child to color or paint while she tells you about what she is creating. Be sure to allow her lots of time to open up and don't react negatively if she says something you don't want to hear.

The things you are most likely to find are: your child has night time fears, i.e. she is afraid of the dark, being alone, closet monsters, etc.; she is jealous of one parent or a sibling; she is afraid of losing your affection if she "grows up"; or some variation of one or more of these.

If your child is suffering from night time fears, give her tools that empower her to overcome her fears:

o Give her a flashlight to play with (especially during the day in a darkened room) to help overcome fear of the dark.

o Give her a spray bottle filled with "monster spray" so she can shoot the monsters if they come out.

o Record a tape of her favorite stories and songs that she can turn on whenever she is feeling alone or afraid (it is best if the recording is of your voice).

o Give her a stuffed animal as big as she is to sleep with.

o Ask her for suggestions.

If the primary reason your child wants to sleep with you is night time fears, you should be able to switch her into her own bed as soon as she has the tools to cope with her fears.

If you discover that your child is jealous of one parent or a sibling, evaluate the situation and determine if she has reason to be jealous. If she has a younger sibling who is getting most of your attention during the day, she may feel the only time she "gets you" is at night. The best way you can help overcome her jealously is to pay special attention to her when she is not asking for it.

If your child reveals that she is afraid that she will lose your affection when she grows up, take stock of what you are communicating to her regarding growing up. You may inadvertently be sending her the message that you want her to stay a baby. If this is the case, consider how you can change her feelings by the way you communicate with her.

You will need to take some time for your child’s feelings to change before you can move her into her own bed. When you do, you may need to make the change in several stages. The first few nights she might sleep on the floor beside your bed. The next move might be right outside your door, then into her own bed. The large stuffed animal or the tape recording of your voice may help ease the transition.

Reply:My 2 1/2 started that too. and i liked it, cause his dad works away from home, but then he tried it while his dad was home. so i decided i had to put a stop to it. I know its cute... but your in for huge trouble if you dont end it soon. I had to tuck my son in his own bed and tell him, honey you need to sleep in your own bed tonight, and it took a couple talks...and even now, if he wakes up in the middle of the night i get my lazy *** out of bed, and put him back in his own, so he knows...he cant sleep with mommy. And once in a while he will ask for mommys bed, and if we had a good day i will tell him...ok, but just for tonight, but if i say no, he will stay in his own bed. he still naps, so i lay down with him at nap time, and tell him, you can sleep in mommys bed for nap today....but he knows it is a privilage.. and he really enjoys it when he gets it!
Reply:We tricked one of my daughters by allowing her to sleep on the floor of our room in her sleeping bag and moving the bag farther and farther away each night. Eventually she was almost in her room and decided the floor was hard and her bed was soft (since she obviously was not going to get itno ours) This allowed her to make her own decision while not compromising her feelings of insecurity. Our younger daughter did not respond to this method at all. She did however respond to a rigid bedtime schedule and routine. Hope one of these methods works for you.

Queen Mary cruise?

I am going on a cruise on the Queen Mary with my Uncle and Aunt in May and I am told that the evenings are quiet formal. Its a 14 day cruise and apparently there are 4 formal nights whilst we are on board.

I am new to cruising as are my Uncle and Aunt. What should I wear on the formal nights and what do you wear on the other less formal nights.

Queen Mary cruise?
We went on the QM2 last year and I'm very jealous that you're going on it, it's a beautiful ship and I hope to go on it again next year.

The proper formal nights are tuxedo's for men and evening gown for women - if you're female, you really need a long dress. If you're a young man, you could probably get away with a shirt and tie. Your uncle could probably do the same if he doesn't have a tuxedo. The other nights you need smart dress - jacket and shirt for men and a dress or smart top and trousers for a women. You don't need a tie for these nights.

You can avoid these nights if you want to - we ate in the 'formal' dining room on the first night but then ate in the other restaurants every night as we really liked the Italian. The other restaurants are smart dress - imagine you were going to a nice restaurant at home and that's what you should wear i.e. not jeans but a nice shirt and trousers (no jacket or tie required) The other option is the buffet dining room in which case you can wear anything you like but I don't think they like shorts at nights.

Hope you have a great time, I've done a few cruises and this has been my favourite ship. They have live music in the pub at lunchtimes and if you want to see it, get there early to grab a table, you need to be there about 11ish. It's also one of the many wi-fi hotspots so I took my laptop and did stuff online and my husband read travel books whilst we were waiting for the music - you can also have a pub lunch in there.

Cunard have a very 'British' standard for dress on their formal nights.

Male, you should endevour to go with tuxedo, if this is not possible at least a full suit and tie.

Female - go with a ballgown if possible, if your not a dress person, go with a full trouser suit.

As I was reading The Bible the other night (Thursday) I noticed QotS was quoted and thought it may be a sign, I looked up the internet and found out it is the only football teams name to be mentioned in The Great Book.

Would it be an absolute disaster if The Doonhamers won today?

The thing is Aberdeen crushed Rangers on Thursday and Queen of the South beat Aberdeen with a great display in the semi final.

I'm in the play "Princess and the Pea" as a spring play. I'm the queen and i don't know what to wear! For those who don't know, it's a fairytale, so i'm looking for something sort of midevil or rennisance like. Nothing pink, only practical queen colors. Blacks, burgendys, colors like that. Missing School, Can't Sleep Night, Can't Wake Up Morning!?

My 12 year old daughter has been taking Zoloft for her social anxiety for 3 years now. Recently, the doc added Folic Acid prescription to her daily meds.

Ever since my daugher was 18 months old, she's been sleeping in a queen-size bed. I've always had trouble getting her to bed at night .

Now, her counselor decided to test her for ADHD, because she has attention problems at school.

She has been missing too many days from school because she won't get up. Can she also have depression? I know depression makes you feel tired and sleepy. I will discuss this at her next doc appt, but just wanted to get some other opinions.

Possible, but I do believe she needs to be seen and probably have more testing. Discuss with them ways you could deal with this.
Reply:Zoloft is also for depression, so it should be working for that along with the anxiety. Three years is a long time to be on it for either.

You say "won't get up" does that mean she is too sleepy or too depressed or fearful of going to school.And what is her pay- of for missing school.

Spending time with Mommy, being the sick little girl.

Maybe it is time for her to see a psychotherapist.
Reply:Your first mistake was allowing her to be put on medication at such a young age. What a great concept to give to your child - "let a pill solve your problems for you." Not to mention that it's not the best thing for a nine year old, health wise....especially for 3 years.

The first, and most responsible, thing you can do for your daughter is to find her a different doctor.

Second, why are you allowing her to sleep in and miss school? You are the parent. If I knew that all I had to do to miss school was to sleep in, I'd sure as hell would have done it. Quit playing along with her little game and take some responsibility.

But I think the reason your daughter is sleepy becuz of the medication not depression. She may improve with time by finding something that 'll make her happy. It is rare that kids get depression so be positive and consult many doctors!

I am writting and essay to analyze how both cover the similair theme to not judge a book by its cover. In twelfth night I know that Olivia is pretending to be her brother and the queen falls in love with her, olivia is also in love with the man teaching her to mature into a man and niether know that she is a woman. and in sonnet 130 he is explaining that his love may seem ugly on the outside but she is beautiful on the inside and he loves her anyway. Missing School, Can't Sleep Night, Can't wake up Morning!?

My 12 year old daughter has been taking Zoloft for her social anxiety for 3 years now. Recently, the doc added Folic Acid prescription to her daily meds.

Ever since my daugher was 18 months old, she's been sleeping in a queen-size bed. I've always had trouble getting her to bed at night .

Now, her counselor decided to test her for ADHD, because she has attention problems at school.

She has been missing too many days from school because she won't get up. Can she also have depression? I know depression makes you feel tired and sleepy. I will discuss this at her next doc appt, but just wanted to get some other opinions.

zoloft is used to treat depression, but maybe the doctor needs to adjust the dose. is she acting depressed? perhaps she is not getting a sound sleep. is she drinking sodas? try cutting sugar out of her diet and preservatives this can help alot. also lettuce has sedative properties and a small cup of lettuce soup before bed is meant to help..do not have a recipe. what often works for me is to have a hot bath with a few drops of essential oil..lavender is best and to put a few drops on my pillow..not the case as it stains sometimes being oil. the drop intemperature after getting out of a hot bath helps to make the body sleepy and lavender is a great soother/relaxer. also put some in a burner and light it an hour or so before she is going to bed, but do not forget to extinguish the candle before you go to bed. lavender works for most people. massage is another good on or to have your hair brushed gently by someone. please give the lavender a go and see how it works. it may take a few nights, but you should see a difference.

Twin or queen bed?

We have 2 boys, ages 5 %26amp; 2. Our 5 yr old has always slept well in his own bed, he has a twin bed now in his room. Our 2 yr old does not like to sleep in his toddler bed, he likes mom %26amp; dad's big bed better, even when we are not in it.

We want to get him a new bed when we move next month, but should we get him a twin bed like his brother, or give him our queen bed? (We will be getting a new mattress for ours anyway...)

In the new house, the boys rooms will be upstairs, and ours will be on the main floor. We really don't like the idea of him coming down the stairs in the middle of the night to crawl in our bed. We think he might be more comfortable with our old mattress, and maybe he will sleep in his own room. What do you think?

You need to have a firm hand with your 2 year old. He must realize that no matter how big the bed is, that his bed, is just that.. HIS!!!. You don't want him crawl into your bed any time, or less you will be in a world of trouble.

I'd definitely stick with giving him a twin like his older brother.
Reply:I think both boys should be in their own twin bed. Your 2 year old needs to know that he's a big boy now and big boys sleep in their own bed. If you need to in the new house, get a baby gate for the stairs at night. Also, make sure you show your 5 yr old how to get it down in case of fire. It's just a matter of consistancy and being firm.
Reply:As long as the 5 year old wouldn't get jealous over it I don't see why not (if this is a comfort thing)...but keep in mind you won't find many kids bedding in queen size. Talk to both boys about it. I think the youngest might just like the bed because mom and dad sleep there, not becase of the size.

A twin bed is a nice size for a toddler, and I really think it's more about being where mum and dad are. Maybe he's having bad dreams? Maybe his room scares him? Maybe he just knows he's safe in your bed with you.

Drama queen friend issue? need advice please.?

I have a friend whom I love dearly but let's face it, she is a drama queen. Everything she does is magnified 10x in her mind. Its hard to have a draining friend like this. I mean it she is a great person who is going through a very rough time with a divorce. It is difficult for me to deal with as I have just started a family of my own and she wants me to constantly solve her problems. even calling me in the middle of the night asking "should i go to YOUR parents house and stay there because I don't want to wake up my dad?" It is very hard for me to handle because I dont' know where to ask her to go for help, as I think she really needs some professional assistance. she is not eating and not sleeping, and she has very bad anxiety, her regular doctor (not psychiatric) told her she just has general anxiety, but it is so extreme, she has even pulled over on a busy highway and called a medic because she thought she was having a heart attack. I am at wits end, she needs help what do I do?

So sorry you're dealing with this emotional vampire. You are probably the only friend she has, and therefore you feel like you're the only one she can reach out to, but trust me, she probably has plenty of people she has already driven off with her behavior.

Just take a deep breath and keep telling yourself, "I am not responsible for this emotional vampire. I will not get sucked in to her drama at the risk of my own health, relationships, and emotional well being."

If your husband hasn't said anything about her so far, he deserves to be sainted, as the middle of the night phone calls are completely inappropriate, unless someone is the hospital or jail.

You need to help her by helping yourself first. Set up boundaries with her and stick to them. Tell her you will not accept phone calls, except in case of emergency, after 9:00 p.m. Then explain to her that unless it involves a trip to the emergency room, it does not constitute an emergency. If she calls after 9:00, ask her what the issue is, and if it's not an emergency, tell her you're sorry, but it's family time and she will have to call you back after 10:00 a.m. (or whatever time YOU establish), then hang up. If she calls back, don't answer. Turn the ringer off if you have to.

Establish emotional boundaries with her as well. Tell her you are not a trained psychologist, so any advice you give her could be damaging, and you don't feel qualified to solve her problems. Tell her that her behavior is draining you, and point out to her that she's a drama queen. Ask her to take notice of the people around her and see if they react to things the same way she does. Then tell her you'll be happy to socialize with her as a friend, but you are not her counselor, and if she starts bumming you out, you're going to change the subject or flat out leave, and stick to it. YOU decide when you've had enough..not her.

Tell her the story of the boy who cried 'wolf.' Anxiety is a horrible thing to live with, but anyone who has loved someone with emotional issues can tell you that it can be crushing to have to bear someone else's burdens.

You are NOT qualified to help her other than providing emotional support, and she requires a lot more than you are humanly capable of giving.

Your best bet is to practice tough love and distance yourself from her, lest you get sucked in to more of her drama.

Most of this drama is about attention and how to get and keep it so be perpared for a dramatic and traumatic response but you just tell her that is exactly what you mean that these outbursts cannot be healthy and she needs to seek help. Reply:You sound like a mature and nice person, and if you care so much about your friend you should have a long, honest chat with her.

Tell her how you feel, and tell her that although you'd love to help her out more, you cannot. You have your own life to live, and her actions are stressing you out and have leaked into your personal life as well.

True friends are honest with each other; and this sometimes is tricky to deal with. But if you have known each other for so long now, I really think you are entitled to having her understand your position -and hopefully she will "get it".

Give her clear examples of how she has affected your schedule or lifestyle. For example, calling you in the middle of the night is not something you do on a regular basis; this is just for emergencies!

Tell her you are worried about her, and that she should take care of herself and not lose her health on top of everything. She should go to therapy or counseling ASAP. (A trained professional can help her deal with her issues and feelings better than you can, so try to convince her to go for her own sake and well-being.)

Finally, please remember she is an adult, and you cannot change other people. You cannot force her to seek help or eat better; she has to WANT to accept help in order to get better. If you have enough closeness with her family, you might talk to them and explain that you are worried about her and why. They are her family, and they should be willing to step in and help her.

And be careful, too. She might try to blackmail you (emotionally) and you will have to be on your toes. She could tell you you are not being a good friend, etc, etc, but that is not true. She has to pay the price for the decisions she took; and blaming others is an immature thing to do.

So don't fall for it and understand that you need to set limits and boundaries...or else, you will continue to feel this way for a long time.

The lesson here is to discover how to say no to someone you love even when they are in need. You are learning when enough is enough and that you HAVE to come first so that your life succeeds.

Tell her you love her, that you have tried to be there for her, but she is out of control and her problem is becoming YOUR problem.

If you don't communicate with her about this honestly it will turn into resentment. Face it head on and take care of business.

Nomatter how much we care about someone we must not make ourselves available to them 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is selfish of them to expect that and it is ridiculous of us to DO it.

You are not being a bad friend to her by doing this. You are actually helping her. You don't have the credentials to solve her problems and even still, if you did, it is up to her to solve her own problems, prompted by a professional.

The mistake you make is at the beginning. Your heart melts and she is all over you like a wet puppy. If this happens again, say something like, "Gee I wish I could help you but I really have my hands full with life at the moment. I think you should call someone who knows about this kind of thing and can direct you properly. Let me know how it works out."

Stand firm. It will be a weight off your back.

Reply:Thinking she is having a heart attack is usually a symptom of a panic attack due to anxiety. However, you need to talk to your friend also about depression as well. Having a broken relationship/divorce can be a torturous feeling. Your heart aches and you want to feel better but it takes time. I have been in that boat before with relationships and not a divorce. I can only imagine it being just as bad.

I have pulled over in traffic when I was feeling badly about flunking in nursing school and a million other negative things happening to run me crazy to call my brother. Whatever you do, when she calls, is listen to her and I know you are tired and drained but please listen to her. We never know when a person is on the brink of giving up. Once, a friend had to stay on the phone with me all night and went to work at 7. I don't know how she did that. Also, it happened to me another time when I was much younger because my fiancee was cheating and called me in the middle of the night to say this girl he worked with said she was pregnant by him. His sister-in-law I called around 3 am and she came from across town to be with me before she went to work. However, these calls happened only once. I helped myself and respected others' schedules and responsibilities. I also have pride about myself that people do get tired. No, do not encourage her to visit your parents because that will be a new route to take. If she does not have insurance, there are some counselors at churches and some free clinics with waiting sometimes.

If she doesn't do this and keeps bugging you, she is not trying to help herself. I would ask her when is her appointment and what is your plan to better the situation after I tell her that I have responsibilities too.

It's hard but sometimes a friend needs us badly and I know you have a little one and live miles away and that is not feasible. However, don't feel bad about what you can't do but do what you can -- listen.

I am also highly concerned because with anxiety comes severe depression plus suicidal feeling and tendency. So think about the following and ask her this question -- Are you having suicidal thoughts or harming you or anyone else?

No, it does not put a notion in her mind to do this but to be frank w/ you so you will know at least how far she is in these feelings. Also, listen to her conversation and don't take it for granted when she mentions something like I want to kill myself and some other things. I had a friend who did commit suicide because her husband was dogging and cheating on her. A lovely woman and I never knew she was going through thoughts of suicide and problems until a co-worker mentioned it to me shortly before her death. We were waiting for her to come into town to have lunch as she promised, instead she gave up.

Does she give away items that are her favorite?

Does she talk about stuff like making a will or eternity?

It might sound mean but we ask persons this when they come for psych measures and in the hospital, we don't take those talks lightly.

Encourage her to seek more counseling by professions; psychiatric treatments; etc. She might need to take a little something to get over this phase and people do all the time. It doesn't make a person a wimp; it's just to help them get through this. I used to feel that if I needed drugs I was going to be an abuser or a lunatic but that's not true. Once, I went to the hospital and admitted myself in for 5 days. Afterwards, I went to a day treatment program called the partial hospital plan because it's cheaper for the insurance companies. It has to be a referral though.

Please listen to her and maybe if you have a mutual friend ask your girlfriend if it is ok to have a person she trusts to share with you the listening and encouragement. Sounds like she needs to be referred to a support group for divorcees.

You are a good friend but we all can get tired when we have our responsibilities plus extra. Being a new mom is not easy even if you don't have this going on with a friend. On the other hand, she has to want to help herself you can't do it for her. So, do what you can and that's all you can.

i was talking to my friend shelby about how i went clubbing on sun night and how we need to get a big group of friends to go together. but she said she didnt want to invite a certain friend because of the way she would act.now the last half of this convo, i knew gossip queen was listening, so i tried to get shelby to stop.so naturally, gossip queen being who she is, literally turns right around and tells the "certain friend" about it.

but then shelby covered for us later when "certain friend" asked about it. but... getting to the point.

normally we find gossip queen hilarious because of the the stuff she repeats. now its getting kinda annoying. so if you have any ideas of ways to make her look stupid, they are much appreciated. :]

How to fix a gossip queen.?
I would confront gossip queen and tell her I don't appreciate her telling your friend you said something when she wasn't even involved in the conversation.

The next time you're chatting with a friend and little miss gossip is in hearing distance, I would just say "We need to talk about this later when "name" isn't around." And then you and your friend walk away. Even if you're talking about what color nail polish you have on. Don't let this rumor-mill hear anything you have to say.

I also would stop listening to her stories. When she starts, just say something like, "I don't have time to listen to what "name" overhears someone else saying." And again, walk away from it.

Last night, I went to the local town nightclub with a few friends. AFter a few hours, I was checking out the action in the club. I saw a nice looking girl from a distance. We made eye contact at the bar. So then I thought that I should introduce myself. Then I approached her at the bar. She was wearing a short leather mini skirt, knee high boots, fishnet stockings and a tight blouse top. She smiled and with a male voice said "Hey honey. do want a taste of both worlds?"He said he was a drag queen. ANyways, I walked off and tried to dance with my friends. Then the drag queen approached me and tried dancing with me. I ignored him. THen me and my friends danced in a different spot. Then, the drag queen tried dancing with me again. I tried avoiding him again. Then after a while, I told my friends that if we could go to another club and find different action. We arrived in another club and it was better action and women. However, after a while, that drag queen re-appeared and tried dancing with me again. That drag queen probably followed me and my friends. Then I told the drag queen to leave me alone. Anyways, after that incident, I told my frinds that I had to go. They were wondering why I had to go in such a hurry. I was on my way home and I look back and see that the drag queen is trying to follow me again. I then was hiding in an alley side-street and I heard the drag queen say " Hey hunny. Come out and play. I'm gonna stick you real good." Luckliy, he realized I wasn't there and walked away. ANyways, I got home safe. I felt embarrased about telling my friends about the incident because I don't want them to be thinking that I'm gay for picking up a drag queen. What's the best way I can explain this to my friends? Advice please??

my friends cat had a stillborn late last night, and the next morning she didn't have any more. My friend said that it looked like she may have more, because she is still big, and the belly looks hard (not sure if she felt it or not).My friend also mentioned that she is bleeding a lot from the vaginal area. Is any of this normal. It is also the weekend and we can't get a hold of a vet, and neither of us know anything about queens giving birth. The queen at the moment is in a box in her garage, and my friend mentioned that she's still eating and drinking and is acting normal. is there any concerns here?

Yes she could have more kittens inside. It is very rare for a cat to only have one kitten. She needs immediate attention! She could die and any kittens in her still alive will die. There should be an emergency vet in your area or nearest large city, check the phone book and get her there ASAP!
Reply:If your friends cat will let your friend feel her belly, lightly feel around for any lumps. If you can feel some, there are definitely more kittens! It is very rare for a cat to only have one kitten, so most likely there are more. She should probably be taken to a vet ASAP. Most vets will take her on the grounds that it could very well be an emergency if she has more kittens inside here at this time.

I am 14 and just dont want to be a teenage drama queen. I am confused if i am being one, tell me please. Well my parents seem to be horrible to me. Like they still get my things like yesterday, we went shopping and I spent £40 on things such as clothes, shoes and mp3 player it was really cool. But like when we got home my brother has this fetish for yawning. My husband and I are looking for a new queen size mattress bc ours is now 10 years old. We are both quite large... he's 6'4", about 270lbs and I'm 5'9", about 250lbs. We have finally purchased a new latex bed, and are awaiting it to come, so unfortunately I have no review on that yet, but I am hoping it will be the answer I have been looking for. ok so last night i was at a lil get together and a guy that i had sex with one time was there and it was like over a year ago that t happend... well he called me the cooty queen... and i was wondering what does a man mean by callin a girl the cooty queen?

Same old story, client dumps pregnant cat "found" in her garage last Saturday. She took it to het vet who vacc'd it for Rabies (ahh!) on Fri night, tested it (-/-). Cat lives like a queen in my guest room, drontal for tape worm but no other issues. Watch her like an impatient child, nothing yet. Call a friend cause her butt looks like it"poking out", she births a much anticipated poop, days goes by.. she seems aggitated, I move into guest room, dogs cry all night at door, no kittens. Next day go to work, come home, cat has HUGE swollen front leg, hmm. Call crazy rescue lady who tells me she suspects injury, jumping while fat from pregnancy (gimme a break). Check her over, yep, bite wound. Call vet at 9pm to beg for advice, four year old human child in bed, blah blah. Tells me to drudge up amoxi, 50mg 2x, found and done. Cat still unhappy, crazy rescue friend brings up rabies, wonderful. So... if the cat did actually get a bite before Sat when will I know? Will kittens have it?

What effect does rabies exposure have on unborn kittens?

The movie Prom Night that is coming out next month. What does the killer go after the Prom Queen? What did they have in Common that happened that made him choose to go after her and her friends on prom night?

Prom Night?
Her teacher was obsessed with her and killed her family. He was put away and escaped three years later. Now he's trying to get to her, and is killing her friends that are in his way.

Hen night themes?

OK. I was wondering what everyone thought of female genies (dressed similar to arabian pirncess outfits) for a hen night? Where could we get outfits that don't reveal the mid section?

Or Alice in wonderland perhaps? Bide to dress as Alice, in a not too short dress, but not floor length either? About knee length, if not a little longer?

Living in the UK, but am willing to buy abroad, depending on shipping charge.

Any other Ideas?

About 8 females %26amp; the bride. For Alice in wonderland, thought bride as Alice, a mad hatter, cheshire cat, Queen of hearts, White rabbit, Tweedle dum amd tweedle dee, %26amp; the 2, 5 %26amp; 7 of hearts.

Where can we get these costumes? We need to make sure that we cater for small lasses and more larger lasses.

Any other ideas would be helpful.

I think genies are cool but Alice in Wonderland is kinda juvenile. If you got genie costumes you can always alter the mid section. I went to a toga party once and everyone was dressed in potato sacks cuz it's a "Roman" theme but I didn't know that so I went to a costume store and I ended up the prettiest dressed there. I went in a sleeveless long white dress with gold braids crossing the breast. Maybe you can all go in the white dress type. Also go on google %26amp; type in costumes to get ideas.........Have fun!

no getting every man you can find to snog the bride

You could try behaving like adults and get dressed up nicely and go somewhere civilised?
Reply:Don't you think the girls that have to dress up as tweedle dum and tweedle dee will be a tad insulted? Everyone wants to look nice... I think the Alice idea is good, but ambitious.

Why don't you just have a general disney character theme?

That way each girl could choose which princess or character she most resembles. And many of those outfits are not too hard to throw together, in a not-too-revealing way. (eg: pocahontas - cheap suede-alike skirt cut up at the hem, beige top)

When I have a hen night, I just want a 'sleep over' type thing to watch girly films, but this may not be your cup of tea.

If the crowd got seperated, the cheshire cat would feel a little lost walking aroud on it's own.

One theme saves arguments on who wants the best outfit.

The best place to look for ideas is E-Bay. You may find that you can make the costumes yourself or just alter the outfits to suit the wearer.

Some themes;

Cops, nurses, bunnies, devils, cats, cheerleaders, etc or you could trawl around the charity shops %26amp; get some second-hand wedding dresses %26amp; bad bridesmaid dresses :)

How do I personalize my room with furniture I don't like?

I'm a 17 year old kid, and I have too much furniture! I can't change my furniture because I'll be going off to college fall of 2008 but I want a somewhat modern room - what can I do to "temporarily" modernize it for a low cost and make it look like a 17 year old lives here? I've got a tall dark wood dresser, 2 dark wood night stands, a long dark wood dress, big dark wood mirror and a queen size dark wood bed -- it doesn't look like a kid should be living here -- what can I do to make it "cool" at a low cost? Posters didn't help :/

How do I personalize my room with furniture I don't like?
If you wouldn't get into too much trouble with your parents, you might consider painting it. It sounds like you have adult and married furniture??? Not sure if even painting it would help. It's all about the style of the furniture as well. If it's big and bulky, with carved posts, then painting it won't help. If it is kinda like mission furniture with straight lines and sharp corners, then paint would work. Then find some cool knobs to replace the old ones with. Cruise some yard sales for cool stuff you can modify and fit in.

Go to BHG.com and look at the ideas they have for decorating. They had a cool idea for a really cheap piece of art that would look very modern and it's easy. If I remember correctly it went like this:

Find a large canvas either one you buy, maybe an existing picture you don't like, maybe make a square/rectangle frame from scrap wood and stretch fabric over it and staple to the back side. (if you use the fabric idea you will need to do the art part before you attach to the frame I think)

Get left over paint (if you paint your furniture, there you go) or get acrylic paint from Walmart in the craft section in bottles...they run about 50 cents. or try your local home improvement store like Lowes or Home Depot and find some OOOPSS paint. That's paint that has been mixed incorrectly or someone returned. They price it real low to get rid of it.

The get three or four different size cans. Have your mom save the cans that the veggies and soups and stuff come in. Clean them up.

Put your different paints in paper plates. Then dip your can rim side into the paint. maybe dab a bit on a towel so not too much excess. Then radomly stamp circles on your canvas. do a few different colors if you like and a few different sizes.

Hang it with no frame for a more modern look. Or maybe make a frame from molding. Paint it white or a complimentary color.

If you find some OOOPSS paint you like in a few coordinating colors, then you might just get enough for the furniture and the walls.

If you are a girl, (which I didn't notice) Then paint the furniture white, put a pastel cornflower blue on the walls or a purple or even a bright green. Find some coordinating colors for your Modern art.

Accesorize with colored vase from Walmart (check out the craft section or the area where they keep the fake flowers). Throw in some glass beads and a candle or fake flower.

Clear way the clutter. Modern is minimal. Take down curtains and use just blinds.

If your a guy, paint the furniture black. Get silver or chrome paint for your lamp. Get a cheap chrome cieling fan. Slap some barely grey off-white paint on the walls. Put up dark grey blinds (or paint them if you have some in place). Find a neon clock in red or blue. Maybe throw in a lava lamp. Clear the clutter.
Reply:First you probably don't need that much furniture. Sell your mirror (uggh). You should only need your bed - something to keep your clothes in / storage and a one bed-side table. Less furniture will modernise your room. Go to the hardware store with your money from selling the things you don't need and but a long mirror to mount on the back of your door.

If your furniture is in ok condition good.

If not, buy a tin of paint in a good basic color like white or deep dark blue. Paint carefully everything.

Get Mom to make, or buy from discount store dark blue tab top curtains.

Go for the deep blue and white - it will freshen up your room. If you want to add accessories why not pick something you like - your favorite sports team - movie - hot car - boat and buy a big poster. Glue it to a stretched canvas (you can buy them from discount stores or art / fabric stores). Paint the sides deep blue to match your furniture. Hang it on the wall behind your bed.

Add pillows and cushions on your bed in matching dark blues, whites and a color that appears on the poster (maybe a hot red or yellow).

Keep your room tidy. Maybe get some storage tubs in wicker to keep junk in under your bed.

Get some old car / bike parts and wire heaps of them all over on a stretched canvas (paint the background dark blue first) - bolts - nuts - bike wheel spokes etc. Hang on the wall.

You can get really cool alarm clocks and wall clocks shaped like basketballs or car wheels - depending on your style to put on the wall.

So your room can look like a kids room - but not a "Little" kids room.

Add a stack of magazines / books / playstation games relating to your favorite thing (matching the room - hot cars, boats, sport) in a wicker basket or on top of your side table.

Reply:Put up some posters on the wall .Go go used srore or other low cost store and get a couple mod lamps or mood lamps. Put some pillows . large ones around on your bed.Make a book case on top of your dark dresser. { book ends I mean] Put up some pictures in medal frames on your nite stands, If you can Paint one wall a bright color and add some modern mirrors.. Hope all works out for you....
Reply:funky mirror a bright paint color......contrast.....like if ur saying that everything is of a dark wood then a nice blue on the wall would look nice.... also u can throw in some white to add a bit more color......a nice rug....some nice window treaments....

Japanese puppet story... moon queen?

o.k. so when I was 8 I remember seeing this Japanese story on TV that was made with moving dolls telling the story of an old Japanese couple living alone when one day the old man finds a baby girl in the woods. She grows up suddenly one night while outside a carriage is seen descending from the moon. It turns out that this is the moon queen who has come to take back her daughter... Anyone know of this story? Would love to get a copy ... it was just tooo beautiful !
